What Are Essential Oils

What Are Essential Oils?

Have you seen those little bottles of oils? Maybe heard someone talk about them? If you’re here, you’re probably wondering “what’s all the hype about these essential oils?” Or, maybe you haven’t even heard of essential oils before. Either way, you’re in the right place!

Essential oils are the life blood of a plant. When plants are properly cared for and distilled, we will receive highly concentrated oil from their leaves, stems, pedals, bark, and other plant parts. These oils are then used to promote health, healing and overall wellness in our bodies! These little bottles of oil promote healthy skin, hair, muscles, bones, and offer digestive, cardiovascular, hormonal and nervous system support in our bodies! It’s as simple as that!

If you’re new to the idea of using essential oils, or maybe this is the first time you are hearing of essential oils and you’re wondering “is it really that simple?” “how can they provide so many benefits?” or, maybe you’re like me when I first heard about them, excited and ready to learn more!

How Do Essential Oils Work?

Essential oils are made up of tiny molecules, so small, they administer therapy at a cellular level. Since essential oils are SO concentrated, you only need small amounts for them to work. It only takes TWENTY TWO seconds for the molecules to reach your brain, TWO minutes for them to be found in your bloodstream, and TWENTY minutes until they impact EVERY cell in your body. For example, when you inhale an essential oil for emotional support, it only takes 22 seconds to reach your brain! When you use essential oils topically to to support your body’s systems it only takes 2 minutes from the time they penetrate your skin to reach your bloodstream , and 20 minutes to travel through your body and affect EVERY cell in your body. Isn’t that amazing!!

How Do I Use Essential Oils?
When I first started using essential oils, I felt like I had SO much to learn. With so many different benefits, and  different ways to use them. Don’t worry, they are all so versatile, and easy to use! There are three ways to use essential oils. Topically, aromatically, and internally.

Using them topically, just means applying them to your skin. Although some oils can be used “neat”, meaning on their own. I still always suggest diluting them with a carrier oil, such as coconut oil, almond oil , jojoba oil or any other base oil. Carrier oils help “carry” essential oils into the skin. They are also helpful for “hot” oils such as peppermint.

You can use essential oils aromatically simply by opening up your bottle and taking a wiff, or putting a drop on you hands, rub them together, and inhale! You can also diffuse essential oils for an aromatic experience. I personally use them all three ways, depending if I’m in the car, maybe out running errands, or relaxing at home. My favorite way to use my oils aromatically is in my diffusers at home, or my gentle mist- personal diffuser while were on-the-go.

Another way to use essential oils is internally. The information provided in this post and website about using essential oils internally refers to Young Living’s pure, therapeutic grade vitality oils. I cannot speak for any other brand, as I personally only use Young Living’s vitality oils. I love to use vitality oils in my water, tea, and NingXia Red! Try a drop of lemon, and grapefruit in your water..YUM! I also love to use vitality oils in vegetable capsules. A few drops of lavender vitality, frankincense vitality, topped off with olive oil in a vegatable capsule before bed….you’ll thank me the next morning! You can find vegetable capsules at your local health food store, on amazon, or through Young Living.
