6 simple ways to instantly feel happiness

6 simple things you can do to instantly feel happy! 

We’ve all had those times where we get in a “funk”

Sometimes we’re overwhelmed, sometimes we might not even know what brought on the funk and that’s okay! 

I want you to remember that at anytime, you can  CHOOSE JOY.  Things don’t have to be “perfect” for us to choose joy everyday. 

If you want to feel better instantly, keep reading for 6 super simple things you can do right now! 

Let sunlight in

Yes! There’s nothing like opening up your curtains or blinds and letting in light. Turning on the room light just isn’t the same. That’s because our bodies respond to sunlight, with serotonin and endorphins (happy hormones). If the weathers nice you can also open up the windows for some fresh air too.

Action Step:

I want you to get up, and go open up your windows right now. You can do this in whatever room you’re in, or make your rounds through the whole house!

Go for a walk

Change your environment! This can be as simple as going for a walk. Just like sunlight sends happy hormones to our brain, so does exercise. So, by going for a walk we flood our brain with the feel-good hormones.

Action Step:

Alright! Time to go for a walk! Even if it’s a quick walk, a walk around your yard, a walk on your break at work. I want you to get up and move your body right now.

Get the diffuser going

Essential oils are another great way to boost your mood!  Essential oils  interact with our limbic system. The limbic system regulates your mood, memory, behavior, and emotions.  The inside of your nose is lined with smell receptors. When you smell something, these smell receptors send responses to your brain. Have you ever gagged when you smelled something gross? Or smelled something that immediately reminds you of your grandparents’ house at Christmas? That’s your Limbic system doing its job! When a scent reaches the Limbic system (via your nose), it triggers your body to release chemicals into your brain with a specific response. Because your sense of smell is directly connected to your Limbic system, scents can greatly impact your emotional state. And that is how essential oils can help boost our mood! 

How fast do they work your body?

22 seconds for the oil molecules to reach your brain.

2 minutes for them to be found in your bloodstream 

20 minutes for them to impact EVERY cell in your body

Some of my favorite uplifting oils that you might like to are: pretty much ALL citrus (lemon, orange, bergamot, lime, citrus fresh), Stress Away blend,  and peppermint!

Action Step:

Turn on your diffuser with 5 drops of lemon and 3 drops of peppermint, or huff them straight from the bottle, whatever you need! If you don’t have essential oils or a diffuser yet you can snag on here!

Note your wins

Show some gratitude! It’s s easy to get caught up with what’s going wrong, or how something “should have” gone. One way I like to redirect my mind is by jotting down my “wins”. This is something you can do every night, or when you’re feeling in a funk. This will help you shift your focus to the good things, and help you instantly feel better!

Action Step:

Take a moment and write down your “wins”. Make a list of things that have gone right so far today day. Maybe you were on time for an appointment, maybe you cleaned the house, maybe it was getting out of bed.

When we start to show gratitude for even the little things, we start to appreciate more, and tend to have more of a positive outlook on our days.

Play upbeat music

Music has such an influence on our emotions!

Smile!  This will send “happy” signals to your brain. You’ll feel so much better! 

Action Step:

Smile! Right now, I hop you have the BIGGEST smile on your face. No matter where you’re at just smile! Even if it feels silly or awkward, just do it.
